How to make a Rustic Wood Painted State Sign
First of all, if you want to see the technique on how to make a Rustic, Chippy Wood Sign like this, you can find my step by step tutorial here.
I made this Rustic Wood Painted State Sign for my Sister. Her husbands job has required them to live in 3 different states over the last 10 years and in each state, they were Blessed with the birth of a Son. So their three little boys , was he inspiration for the states being blue and of course, the blessed sentiment. Here’s how to easily personalize a wood board with painted states.
I used my Silhouette to cut out Florida, Kentucky and Kansas cut files then traced them with a pencil on to the board. You could also print state shapes off the internet and cut them out too.
I then used Americana Chalky Finish Paint to paint inside the outlined states. After the paint is dry, you can sand around the edges to give a more distressed look too.
To personalize Rustic Wood sign for my Sister’s family, I adhered wood veneer hearts in the location where they’ve lived. Aren’t those wood veneer hearts the best and add the most unique detail! <3!
I used my Silhouette again to cut out the Blessed sentiment letters. I welded the letters together in my Silhouette Software using a font called Grand Hotel, then traced it on the board and hand painted it with brown paint.
So happy with the way this Rustic Wood Painted State Sign turned out! Now that I think about it, I’ve made my Sister quite a few wood signs and projects over the years. Baby Subway Art. Clothespin Wreath. Boys Sign. Wood Sleigh. She’s probably tired of all this handmade stuff I send her. IDK, guess I should ask her but I like doing it so I’m just gonna keep doing. Hope you have fun making your own Rustic Wood Painted State Signs!
