Upcycled Containers for Dad

May 25, 2015 by Holly Gagnon 33 Comments

Upcycle ordinary household containers into a Father’s Day gifts that will enhance Dad’s  home/office/dorm/cave/pad/garage/dog house or any other area he may hang out in. Bathroom?
Upcycle a soup can and Pringles Can into simple and inexpensive home decor

I’ll admit I’m sorta a can hoarder.  I collect hoard {clean} cans and stuff them into empty bags and boxes in the garage.  Maybe I shouldn’t of admitted that, sounds weird…like a crazy cat can lady weird.

To make this masculine decor, I re-covered an empty Pringles {cheddar} and soup can{Italian Wedding} with  DCWV Industrial Chic paper using continuous Glue Lines®.  Very simple: measure, cut, adhere…done.

Upcycled Container

After I wrapped the cans in paper, they needed a lil’ something else and I couldn’t wrap a big bow around them like I would of liked so, I wrapped 20 gauge copper wire around the cans and threaded a “manly” looking BGM Cookie Jar button through.

Buttons and Glue Dots

When designing manly crafts, the thought of incorporating buttons may not be the first embellishment to pop into your head but these Button Galore buttons turned out to be the perfect embellishment for the lid of this treat canister.

I adhered various BGM Cookie Jar and Argyle buttons using permanent Glue Dots® on to a piece of Kraft paper inked with Colorbox ink.

Buttons and Glue Dots

Now you can fill up the Upcycled Containers with supplies or Dad’s  favorite treats, goodies maybe some nuts & bolts.  Men need a lil’ craft in there life too or as my husband would say “Crap”…Gasp!

VERY COOL!!! I’ve been saving all kinds of food packaging and this has totally inspired me to start altering them. I really like the papers you used and substituting wire for ribbon was genius! Thanks a bunch for playing along with our Whimsical Wednesday challenge at Whimsical Designs.

Your creation is so amazing!! I really love it!

What are “glue line” that you mentioned? I looked on the Glue Dots site but couldn’t find anything listed for it. I Love using glue dots but have been out of the crafting loop for a little while and never heard of Glue Lines until today.

Thanks so much for sharing your creative gift!

I just looked up “glue lines” on Google. They sound incredibly handy to use on some projects. I will have to look for some and try them on a future project. Thanks so much for your inspiration!
