Windsock always add a colorful statement hanging on a front porch. I tend to be a sucker for front porch decor too. Here’s an easy DIY Patriotic Windsock I made out of an ordinary household item. Can you guess what? Yep- Coffee Can. Easy projects like this gives me a reason to my hording empty cans and jar madness.
DIY Patriotic Windsock
{this post contains affliate links referencing products used}
The Windsock is made out of scrap fabric that I had left over from Laura Kelly’s America the Beautiful fabric. I used the majority of the fabric to make a Patriotic Rag Wreath but Laura’s fabric was just too cute to stash away I wanted to make something else with it.
To make the Patriotic Windsock, I cut the fabric into 2 1/2 x 24 inch strips, stitched up the edges so they wouldn’t fray in the wind and hot glued the fabric strips and pretty red grosgrain ribbon inside the coffee can.
The outside of the can is embellished with twine, red curled wire and a red, white and blue wood star I found at Hobby Lobby. Super simple!
This DIY Patriotic Windsock is a simple outdoor decoration idea that can be made for any season plus it also gives you a reason to use up any of those coffee cans and scrap fabric you may have been hoarding. i know, it’s a problem. You can see more amazing projects made with Laura Kelly’s Patriotic fabric over on her blog.
