I’m one of those people that love, love to decorate their house for Valentine’s Day. I decorate the entryway, hang hearts all over the house and even decorate a bathroom. For realz… I do. I have a Valentine’s shower curtain. This year I added a gorgeous DIY piece in to my Valentine’s Decor, a Valentine’s Paper Ribbon Topiary.

This topiary may be one of my FAV projects I’ve made so far. I’ve been wanting to make a Ribbon Topiary for a while now.
Originally , the plan was for Halloween but then I made a Paper Ribbon Wreath instead so now that Valentine’s is near, I’m all about a Valentine’s Paper Ribbon Topiary. The colors are my favorite too. The patterned papers from Echo Park Paper Head Over Heels kit are totally matchy-match with my Valentine’s Decor too.
- Cut patterned paper in to 1/2 x 4 inch strips.
- Staple the ends together. {Stapling the ends of the paper strips just makes life easier. Trust me.}.
When you think you have enough ribbons, make more! Ha! I used a 5″ Styrofoam ball to make the topiary. The bigger the ball means more paper ribbons which ends up feeling like a gazillion paper ribbons by the time you’re done but it’s totally worth the effort ’cause look how dang purty ’em paper ribbons are!
When the foam ball is covered, stick the topiary ball on a wooden dowel and secure in to a pail. I tend to be a die cut gal but I enjoyed designing with Echo Park Element Stickers. I used the baby powder method to turn stickers into die cuts. Then, just add a few foam squares and- BAM….done! Instant die cut.
Isn’t this Valentine’s Paper Ribbon Topiary gorgeous?! It was totally worth the time it took. to make too.

Just wanted to leave you a comment and tell you how pretty this topiary tree is – in fact it’s absolutely breath-taking and so vibrant and outstanding – you really have inspired me to get round to doing a styrofoam ball I painted 2 years ago (or thereabouts) to do something similar with – although I was going to (back then) pin mini flowers all over it, in one colour scheme. However, I never got round to it – but one advantage is… I have a bag of about 15 of these babies so I can make pairs of them up – or just make all different types or different colours. I have a steel bucket to stick mine in, and bought a long length of dowel from the DIY store so that I could make 3 or 4 with it… will see how they go. I will probably use a different EP kit – I actually buy all of the kits when they come out electronically – EPH, so will never run out (well, not of the design anyway) – I might run out of plain paper – then again, prob not – i’m a crafter!!!!
Simply Beautiful!!!
