DIY Pallet Sign for Dad

May 8, 2016 by Holly Gagnon 6 Comments

When I think of gifts for Dad,  pretty much anything rustic comes to mind.   Of course, personally, I’m a sucker for anything rustic so that could be my reasoning since my dad nor my kids daddy are really rustic.  Ha!   Either way, to keep with my love for rustic, I made a unique Pallet Sign for Dad  for Father’s Day.

I’ve had this blank  wood pallet sign  stashed away for a while now, just waiting to turn in to some sort of project.  In case you are wondering how I made this pallet sign,  it’s just two pieces of  scrap pallet wood that I adhered  together using  Gorilla Glue.  That’s it.  I didn’t even use nails to hold it together since the sign is small and measures at 5 x 9 inches.

How to make a DIY Pallet Sign for Dad using Faux Leather Paper

To personalize this DIY Pallet Sign for Dad,  I used  my Silhouette CAMEO and Silhouette Faux Leather Paper .   Let me tell you, this leather paper is so cool to create with!   I cut out the letters  DAD using natural and black faux leather paper. What’s so unique about this faux leather paper is that  it looks even more realistic  when it’s distressed.   To distress the faux leather,  I crinkled the letters up {gah!} sprayed them with a little bit of water, flattened  them back out and inked the wrinkles with distressing ink.  You really can’t go wrong with this paper, it won’t tear or rip so just distress it up!

After my letters where roughen up to my liking, I hot glued the layers together  then hot glued everything on to he pallet sign.

Now this step isn’t really  isn’t  “Craft Lighting”, but I thought my  Pallet Sign for Dad needed a little bit more rustic, roughness, so  I nailed in a few Panel Nails along the edges.  Since I only had Dark Oak Nails,  I used a Sharpie Marker to colored the tops  to add a little bit of contrast.

This is a great repurposed gift idea. I’m always a fan of ‘distress ink’ whenever I incorporate paper into my crafts too. 🙂
