Turn your home in to a Haunted House this Halloween by creating a DIY Frankenstein Tombstone to spook those Halloween guests. We don’t do scary Halloween in our house but this faux tombstone might just be one of my favorite Halloween decorations yet. It’s a lil’ scary but sorta whimsical plus my kids keep telling me how cool it looks too.

The FloraCraft® Make It: Fun team challenge this month was to chose a EPS foam shape to create a spooky Halloween project with. I obviously chose to create with good ol’ Frank here. When I chose the shape, I really had no clue as to what I was going to do with a bust of Frankenstein but I was up for the challenge and I think I totally pulled it off too.
Supplies Used t0 make Frankenstein Tombstone:
- FloraCraft® Make It:Fun- EPS Foam Head (available at JoAnn’s/Michael’s/Walmart)
- FloraCraft® Make It:Fun-Foam Sheets 1/2 inch sheet
- FloraCraft® Make It:Fun-Foam Sheets 1 inch sheet
- FloraCraft® Make It:Fun- Smooth Finish
- FloraCraft® Make It:Fun- Foam Cutter
- FloraCraft® Make It:Fun- Foam Tools
- FloraCraft® Make It:Fun- StyroGlue
- Craft Paint- Grey, White, Black
- Die Cutting Machine
First, I had to make Frank’s head flat so I’d be able to attach it on to the tombstone. I did this by cutting off part of the back, right behind the ears using a foam cutter. I felt bad cutting Frank’s head in half but I think he’s already used to being cut up. 🙂
Since I was going for a weathered stone look, I combined white, grey and black paint together on a plate and used the paint brush to lightly blend the colors on the face. By using this paint technique, I was able to keep some of the ares darker than the others.
To create the faux tombstone, I cut a 1 inch foam sheet in to a shape of a tombstone then applied two coats of Smooth Finish over the board. I left the foam rough in areas to achieve the faux stone look.
I used the same paint technique as I did for Frank’s face for creating a weathered stone look.
To make the Frank nameplate, I used my Silhouette CAMEO to cut out the letters using black and grey cardstock then adhered the name on to a foam plaque cut from a piece of 1/2 inch foam sheet.
I used FloraCraft® Make It:Fun foam tools to create cracks in to the faux tombstone to provide realistic details and adhered the head and plaque on to the tombstone using StyroGlue.
Didn’t Frank turn out great? It really is amazing the projects you can create out of FloraCraft® Make It:Fun foam.
Frankenstein Tombstone
I probably spent more time than I should of creating this Frankenstein Tombstone but I really did enjoy bringing the big green guy to life. Well, grey guy in this case or dead grey guy since hes’s on a tombstone.
