DIY Wood Clock

May 26, 2014 by Holly Gagnon 12 Comments

Sharing with you today a shabby chic inspired DIY Wood Clock I made for Paper Issues newest challenge, The World is a Circle.

The Paper Issues creative team was sent Ruby Rock-It, East Coast Essence collection to create a “Circle” inspired project with.  What’s more circle than a traditional clock?  The idea of making a DIY clock came to me when I saw the AM/PM lettering along with clock times on a sheet of the East Coast collection.  I just love how small  random things can inspire to creativity!

DIY Wood Clock

I’ve always been a fan of clocks but clocks seem to be going the way of CD’s and the beloved “be kind, rewind” VCR tape.  I’m not even sure if most people actually use a real clock to tell time anymore.  Everyone just checks there cell phone for the time.

DIY Wood Clock

To embellish the clock, I used my Silhouette to cut out various sized circles and adhered them on to the clock face. I also included the one sheet of patterned paper that inspired me to make this DIY clock.  Notice the AM/PM lettering and clock times in the middle? Yep, those lil’ letters were the inspiration behind this whole clock.

Chalky Finish Paint

The clock base is from Walnut Hollow which I painted with Americana Chalky Finish Paint.

Chalky Finish Paint
I used a dry brush technique to paint another coat of Chalky Finish paint around the edges to give the base a little bit of contrast.

I hope my DIY Wood Clock inspires you to think “Circles” and link up your The World is Circle  project over at Paper Issues for a chance to win the WHOLE Ruby Rock-It East Coast Collection.

LOVE IT! Your clock turned out so good.

I love crafting with the Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint. I have the light blue color you used on your clock – but I have been eying all the colors lately. {Especially the tan color} Guess I need to make a run to the store for more 🙂

Gorgeous! This is definitely going on my list of summer crafts. My older girls would love to make one for their rooms. They will love that they can personalize it any way they want.

This clock is so fun!! I think you are right about everyone just looking at their cell phones. I love clocks tho, and I have an excessive amount of them in our (not so large) home. 🙂
