If you’re like me you love a good rustic, farmhouse project. Since farmhouse decor can be expensive I’ve learned to DIY some of things I would like. Like figuring out How to Make a Chicken Wire Frame myself. This Chicken Wire Photo Frame is versatile, it can be decorate seasonally, was simple to make and a totally inexpensive. . Like less than $10 in supplies used.
How to make a Chicken Wire Frame
{this post contains affliate links referencing products used}
To make the frame, I cut Furring Strips {I like this wood since it’s already distressed and inexpensive} into the frame size I wanted. I used a jig saw to cut my strips but a hand saw would work well too since the wood is already thin. I wanted the frame is square and rustic so no need to miter the corners.
To assemble to chicken wire frame, I the used wood glued and nails to hold the corners together. I even added in a few staples with a staple gun for cosmetic look. When the corners were secure, I used a sander on the rough areas.
After the frame was assembled, I measured chicken wire to fit, cut the wire with wire snips and used a staple gun to attach it on to the back of the frame. That’s it!
How to Age Wood with Vinegar
Of course, I couldn’t have my rustic chicken wire frame looking all new, and pretty so I used a vinegar and steel wool technique to age the wood. This aged wood board is a picture from a different project, but the whole technique is the same.
Submerge steel wool into a jar of vinegar, let sit for a few hours then use a foam brush to apply the vinegar solution on to your wood. When it dries you have Instant Aged Wood Magic!
