I spent a few Summers as a kid visiting family in Kansas that ran a dairy farm. I still have vivid memories of this farming experience. Cows chase you, cows are stubborn, cows smell terrible and cows are a lot of work!
My uncle would start to milking the cows in the wee hours of the morning only to have to turn around and do it again later in the afternoon…7 days a week, 365 days a year! I now can say, I appreciate where my milk comes from.

Inspired my childhood memories of dairy cows, here’s my cute, non-smelly, non-chasing diary cow Cow Treat Box that would be perfect to make for any farm themed party favor or gift box.
To make this Cow Treat Box, I used my Cricut to cut out a small backpack to use as the box from the Life’s a Party cartridge then used the Animal Kingdom cartridge to cut out the cow head and adhered to the flap of the bag.
I embellished the Cow Treat Box with twine, burlap, googly eyes, a button and a pretty flower for her ear. I wish all cows were this cute! After all these years, I still do appreciate my farming experience but I don’t miss those Dairy Cows!

October 15, 2012 at 5:18 pmOh Holly this is just so darn cute and clever! And I hear you about how stinky dairy cows can be. My in-laws live 5 hours north from us, and we have to drive hours through dairy cow land in the dead of summer. STINKY! I am not sure why the coin phrase of “California Cows are Happy Cows” makes sense. I would be miserable to have to put up with smell all day if I was a cow. 🙂

October 18, 2012 at 5:31 amHolly I love your project as well as the story behind it! I love cows, but haven’t had an up close encounter like you. I think I’m partial to black & white cows if you can figure out why! LOL. I’m pinning this project for future ideas cause I love the flap on the bag. Very creative. TFS!
