How to Cover a Textbook

August 3, 2019 by Holly Gagnon 5 Comments

Did you remember How to Cover a Textbook?  Like we {had} to do as kids?  I sure do.  Things were different then.  Now, it’s all computers and photo copies or the textbook stays at home.   What?  At, home?  Since my kids didn’t know what I was talking about,  I did what any mom of the 80’s would do, show them how I covered and decorated my textbooks.   Old School Style.

Remember when we used to cover out textbooks in school? Easy tutorial on how to make textbooks super cool by covering with Kraft paper and decorating with Sharpie markers. Fun way to make textbooks too cool for school!

Now that the Holidays are over,  my kids were dreading going back to school so making their textbooks look cool with kraft paper and Sharpie Markers,  made going back to school a little more fun.  They can also show their lil’  pals what their Mom did  when she was their age.  I don’t know, maybe it won’t be cool to them but it sure brought back memories to me.

Supplies need to cover textbooks.

You don’t need many supplies to cover textbooks.   Only Textbooks (duh!) , kraft paper and scissors.  No tape.  No glue needed.   Just paper and of course Sharpie markers to make those textbooks look too cool for school.
How to Cover a Textbook with Kraft paper! Such and easy craft idea to protect books at school or even for and home decor.

How to Cover a Textbook

  • Lay your book on a piece of kraft paper or paper bag and leave about 4-5 inches over hang on each side.   Left over Christmas wrapping paper works great  too.
  • Fold down the top and bottom  of the paper until the paper is flush with edges.
  • Tuck one side of the book cover in to the side flap
  • Close book .  Tuck the other end of  the book cover flap in to the flap on the other side.
  • Now the fun part….. Decorate!

Cover textbooks with kraft paper then decorate with Sharpie markers. Funs school project!

After my books were covered, the fun part started.   There’s just something about Sharpie markers.  They’re  the ultimate drawing and doodling marker.

How to Airbrush with a marker . Insert a Sharpie marker in to a Color Spritzer and spray. Such an easy way to decorate paper!

To decorate the Cover of the Textbooks, I used an Airbrush Color Spritzer and a Sharpie marker to create  unique designs.  Just insert the marker in to the holder, make sure the tip of marker is under the nozzle  nd squeeze to spray the ink.  So dang cool!

Doodling on covered textbooks with a Sharpie marker.

After I was finished airbrushing, I did my best attempt at doodling my personal old school graffiti.  Ha!  I loved drawing bubble letters when I was kid.  I even made the cheerleader banner weekly that the football players ran through.  My big ole’ bubble letters on paper….  GO.  TEAM.  GO!
