60th Birthday Gift

April 7, 2013 by Holly Gagnon 9 Comments

My Mom’s 60th Birthday was a few days ago and since her gift has arrived safely to her, I can now share it on my blog.  My Mom reads my blog and of course is my biggest fan.  Awe!

I always ho-hum about what to make for my Mom.  I’ve made her lots of stuff over the years (she’s prob like…please, no more) but what Mother doesn’t always love to receive unique, handmade gifts from her daughter?

My parents came for a visit last month and surprisingly, we got a good snap shot of the whole Fam together. My husband didn’t look dorky, my Dad and the kids were actually looking at the camera and no one was making bunny ears…say what???

So, I decided to take that unusual good photo of the Fam and Mod Podge it on to a 2 x 6 piece of wood to make it in to a picture frame.

Mod Podge a photo to wood

Yep-I cut this piece of wood myself, sanded it, painted it, sanded some more, stained it, then sanded some more.   It took me quite a few steps to achieve this awesome distressed hue I was looking for but I soooo love it!   Now, I want to make my kitchen cabinets this color!

To complete the my frame, I wrapped Hemptique Natural Hemp Cord and crinkle ribbon around the frame and added a few Buttons Galore & More Blank Retro Flower Shapes and Cookie Jar buttons.
Inked Flower Shape

How cute are these little flower button embellishments?  There called Blank Craft Shapes from Buttons Galore and More.  Basically, there white shapes that you can stamp on or customized to any color you want.  Now, how cool is that?

1. Choose a Blank Shape  2. Ink with color 3. Set the ink with a heat gun. 4. Total cuteness!

60th Birthday Card

Here’s my Mom’s pretty birthday card that coordinates with her frame.  All my gifts coordinate.  It’s just a rule of mine and yes, my Mama celebrated her 60th birthday.
To make the card, I used my Silhouette and choose a cut file from Ginny Nilson and the gorgeous Echo Park’s This & That Graceful collection by Lori Whitlock.  I tweaked the lettering on the card a little by offsetting them and adding foam squares behind the number to make it pop out.

Now how cool is that boring ‘ol piece wood now?  Happy Birthday Mom!

Both the card & gift are great! Love the ‘frame’ and getting a good picture is a HUGE battle! Your mom & I are the same age (did this Bday bother her too?)
