How to make a Paper Bag Broom

October 5, 2015 by Holly Gagnon 9 Comments

Eeeek… so love this Halloween Paper Bag Broom! You’ll never guess what’s inside.  A Popcorn Box!   This is my 3rd year participating in Laura Kelly’s fun Popcorn Box Blog Hop.  Laura sends bloggers  a lil’ Halloween happy mail package that consist of a plain popcorn box and other fun goodies.  There are 50 of us bloggers this year who  all created unique items with their box.  This year, I create a Paper Bag Broom.  Yes, I did make a broom outta brown paper bags and a popcorn box.

Paper Bag Broom

So,  I can’t take all the creative credit for this Paper Bag Broom, it was actually my daughter’s  idea that  inspired me.  Since this is my 3rd year participating, I was really trying to think “out of the box”.   Ya know, more than just a popcorn box.   I showed my daughter the box and she looked at if for a minute, turned it over, opened it up and said how about a Broom?  Yes- a Broom- done!   She’s only 8 and way more creatively talented than I am.  #blessed

I used two brown paper bags to turn the Popcorn Box in to a broom.  The first  bag is cut just enough to cover the length of the box.  The second bag is cut all the way down till the bottom fold.

After the bags are cut, place the open popcorn box inside the first bag, then place it in the second bag.  Use ink to distress the edges.

Insert a stick in to  the top of broom and secure paper bag on to the popcorn box with hot glue and  twine.  I also used some back Scotch Washi Tape around the top.  So dang cool, right?!

The outside of the broom is embellished with black raffia, orange and black twine, a Pebbles Inc Bat Clothespin and chipboard sticker.

So fun, right?  I think my Halloween Paper Bag Broom looks great  propped up next to spooky old books.   Thanks Laura for organizing this awesome Popcorn Box Blog Hop!  And a BIG thanks to the sponsors:  World Market, Sizzix, Kunin Felt, Adorn-It, Expressionery.com, and Udderly Smooth Hand Cream.
