Halloween Blocks

October 8, 2012 by Holly Gagnon 13 Comments

A few weeks ago, I was featured as the first guest designer for Jill on Every Day is an Occasion-Wonderful Wednesday’s post.   You may not know this, but Jill’s is one of my blog bestie’s so naturally, I had the connections to be her FIRST featured designer.  Yep-It’s good to know the right people…just sayin.

I wanted to do a Halloween theme so I decided to bust out my power tools and cut some Halloween  Blocks for decoration.

DIY Halloween Blocks

I cut the blocks in various sizes, painted them black, distressed them, Mod Podged paper to them and then embellished them with green raffia, orange gems, buttons, colored wire and stamped sentiments.  Oh and I used Cricut Mini Monsters as my go-to Halloween cartridge on this project.

Halloween Blocks

Eeek..danger with lots of cuteness ahead!  I stuck this “not-so-scary” Grim Reaper on an action wobble and a stamped him with a sentiment.

To add some texture, I embossed the letters with dots and added some white heat embossing powder to the skeletons.

Halloween Blocks

I love raffia.  I love to wrap things with raffia.  I love to tie bows with raffia.  I know raffia makes a big mess on the floor.  I’m not sure why I’m so drawn to raffia but I love it and own it in various colors…red, black, green, brown and natural.  It’s worth the mess to me.

Halloween Blocks

The stamped sentiment on this block, is from Barb at Bug Bites.   I did a guest designer post for Barb last year too which gave me the opportunity to play with her Magic Spells sentiments.

Thanks Jill for having me as your featuring my Halloween Blocks!
