Mother’s Day Keepsake Box

May 7, 2012 by Holly Gagnon 44 Comments

It’s not always about the price of a gift  but about the thoughtfulness. This Mother’s Day Keepsake Box may of originally only cost a Dollar but when it’s painted and  embellished with pretty flowers,  it becomes so much more.
Mother's Day Box Keepsake Box. Wooden Box altered with paint, paper flowers and letters.

Mother’s Day Keepsake Box

I love little wood boxes.  They are inexpensive and can be decorated a million ways.  I  altered this  as wooden box to give to my Mom this year for for Mother’s Day.   My Mom she has 3 children so I added 3 flowers to symbolize us kids.   Since  I’m the oldest, I get to call front seat the biggest flower mine…TeeHee.

To altered the wood box, I spray painted it flat white then used sandpaper and ink to give it a a distressed look.

I used my Cricut to cut out the  spiral flowers using the Flower Shopppe cartridge and wrapped a ribbon around the top of lid.

Mother's Day Box Keepsake Box. Wooden Box altered with paint, paper flowers and letters.

Inside the  box, under the  the lid, I used my Cricut again to cut out a paper  frame and the word MOM using the Cricut Storybook  cartridge.

Mother's Day Box Keepsake Box made from a painted wood box and embellished with paper flowers and letters. Easy and thoughtful Mother's Day Gift Idea.

Heat Embossed Letters

How cool us the texture on the letters?  I used Shabby Pink heat embossing powder  and a heat gun to give the letters that look.   I love the way my Mother’s Day Keepsake Box turned out and I hope it’s something my Mom treasures for years to come.

Holly this is just gorgeous! What a beautiful way for your Mom to store her precious keepsakes. Love those textured letters, sounds like a technique I may need to check out. And your flowers so, so pretty. I’m the oldest of 3 also, so I understand about the NEED to be in the front seat…or…have the biggest flower…I mean…it’s only right…right?
