How to alter a Composition Book

December 31, 2015 by Holly Gagnon 6 Comments

Plain Compositions books aren’t made to be pretty but you can easily alter a Composition Book  in to a pretty journal by using some pretty scrapbooking paper and embellishments.

It’s pretty easy to turn an inexpensive and {boring} Plain Jane composition book into a unique and personalized journal.   I picked up about a dozen of these composition books recently during a back to school clearance sale for like 50 cents.  I  totally stocked up on the wide ruled too, not that skinny college ruled kind.  Skinny lines…yeah right.   Since my daughter seems to be invited to a birthday party like every weekend now, {sometimes two} giving her friends a personalized journal with their name and favorite colors has turned out to be the perfect gift to give.  Handmade is always the best, right?

How to Alter a Composition Book

  1. Measure and cut paper to cover book.  Use a corner punch rounder on the corners.
  2. Adhere tape along the top edges of the book cover. Apply paper.
  3. Hot glue ribbon along the side of the book to cover the papers edge.
  4. Measure, cut and adhere paper to the inside covers.
  5. Embellish book.

Tim Holtz Tattered Flower Dies are perfect to use with felt.

The cover of the journal is embellished with Thickers,  rhinestones and felt flowers cut out of a Tim Holtz Tattered Flower die.

The birthday girl always enjoys receiving an Altered Composition book as a personalized gift.  Of course,  my daughter likes to brag that her mommy made it for them also.   Awe shucks! #biggestfan

Thanks for visiting Tara. I think any video game or super hero themed paper with black ribbon would be great for boys. Holly
