Smile of the Week Sign

May 17, 2011 by Holly Gagnon 12 Comments

I made this Smile of the Week Sign for my son’s first grade teacher to hang up in her classroom for the new school year.   A student is chosen weekly as the classroom “Smile” and gets to have their picture and favorite things displayed for the whole class to see.  It’s a BIG deal for a 1st grader!

After searching through all my cartridges for a sun die cut that was larger enough, I just ended up  cutting a large 12 inch circle from the Cricut George and Basic Shape cartridge. I then hand-cut the sun beams and embossed the irregular shapes.
I used the Cricut Speaking of School cartridge to cut the fun font  “Smile of the Week” at 3 1/2 inches.  I then enhanced the letter layers with markers, inks and chalks.
Sunny Sign made with Cricut Speaking of School cartridge.
I’ll admit, this project took a little longer than expected due to the fact that it was a time consuming figuring out the correct font sizes.
Overall, I’m really happy the way it turned out and I’m glad that I’m able to make something cheery for the classroom walls.  It’s also fun knowing that my son will get to see something his Mommy made hanging up on his classroom wall.

Wishing you many Sunny Smiles!

So absolutely perfect! Your child’s teacher is going to LOVE this project. I never considered the Speaking of School cart, but after seeing your creation, maybe I do need it…LOL! The embossing is a perfect touch, too. Thanks for sharing your talent with us at CTO this week!
