Did you know Grandparents Day is fast approaching? It’s the second Sunday in September. Totally an important day, right? Grandma’s and Grandpa’s can be the perfect {built-in} babysitters …duh! I made this Grandchildren Welcome Sign or my in-laws, ya know so the last minute drop offs don’t make me feel so guilty. Who am I kidding, I never feel guilty.

Grandchildren Welcome Sign
T0 make this wood sign, I cut, sanded, painted/stained and distressed a plain wood board. To achieve the color I wanted on the wood, I used a stain and paint technique. You can view my tutorial on how to create this paint stain technique for yourself. It’s one of my favorites!
After the board was dry, I used my Silhouette CAMEO to cut a Grandchildren Welcome cut file out of black vinyl.
Applying the vinyl on to the wood sign was really easy to do. I sized the cut file to fit, sent it to my Silhouette CAMEO, weeded the letters then used transfer tape to transfer the vinyl on to the wood board.
To give the Grandchildren Welcome Sign a little something extra, I hot glued Black Buttons and adhered a black grosgrain ribbon bow on the top. Easy project, ya know to stay on those Grandparents good side ’cause we all need to dump those kiddos off sometimes.

February 3, 2018 at 6:38 pmWith all due respect, I wish folks would stop making these “Grandchildren Welcome; Parents by Appointment Only” signs. They are not only incredible rude, but also divisive. Family is supposed to be a place were all are welcome. In my humble opinion, the saying is NOT cute or funny; it’s hateful, intolerant & in poor taste. Now for the design of your sign, it’s adorable! Very cute. It ‘m not trying to offend you personally, I’m just quite concerned that creating signs that are designed to single out the parents is THE WRONG message to be sending. We should be promoting family unity.
